MINNESOTA STRIP
“This is a case that one-armed private eye Dan Fortune really doesn’t want to bother with. An Amerasian girl has been killed on New York City’s notorious “Minnesota Strip” where all the hookers and druggies go, and Jerry Carter thinks his youngest son Roy is involved. Jerry wants Dan to find Roy, who disappeared when the girl was killed, and bring him on home to the suburbs. Fortune thinks the murder and disappearance are routine police matters, but business is slow, so he takes the case.
He soon finds that there is nothing routine about it at all. The murder links itself to drugs, white slavery and international smuggling, and as for the disappearing Roy, well, let’s just say that there is nothing more dangerous or deadly than a dedicated idealist.
Minnesota Strip is everything a good PI novel should be. There’s action, suspense, strong characterization and plenty of grit. But best of all, there’s none of the self-righteous soul-searching and excuse-making that clutters up many of today’s PI novels. As for Dan Fortune, he’s tough, smart, and loaded with heart. Michael Collins has won Edgars for his Dan Fortune books, and this one spells winner all the way.”
